Chemical medicines rarely support the joints the way you need them supported, and are often provided with the assumption that you will also go out and find a natural way to reduce arthritis joint pain on your own.

PHYTODOLOR

Phytodolor is a German herbal preparation containing aspen (Populus tremula), common ash bark (Franxinus excelsior) and golden rod herb (Solidago vigaurea). It is available to buy from some UK pharmacies* in the form of a tincture. It is also known as STW1. Aspen contains a chemical called salicin – this is converted in the body to salicylic acid which inhibits the production of prostaglandins in the nerves, easing pain and discomfort. Some studies have shown that common ash bark and golden rod herb also have pain-relieving properties. Common ash bark can also act as an anti-oxidant (which can reduce damage to joint structures) and some laboratory-based and animal studies have suggested this herbal mixture may have anti-inflammatory properties. Most trials have used 30–40 drops of the compound three times a day. Effectiveness Evidence for the effectiveness of phytodolor in treating osteoarthritis is encouraging. Several randomised controlled trials found phytodolor to be more effective than a dummy (placebo) compound in reducing pain and improving joint mobility in osteoarthritis. Others found phytodor to be as effective the NSAIDs diclofenac and piroxicam in reducing pain, swelling and stiffness in joints. None of the trials reviewed specifically studied people with rheumatoid arthritis, so it is not possible to reach a conclusion concerning the potential effectiveness of phytodolor for this condition. Safety No interactions with other medicines have been reported. No major side-effects have been reported in trials.
